My Name is Taylor Nicole Craft
Taylor Craft (b. 2000, Waterford, MI) is a photographer, dancer, choreographer, and arts administrator based in New York City. Craft received her BFA in Dance from Wayne State University in 2022. In that time she had the opportunity to train with faculty including Meg Paul, Dr. Biba Bell, and BAIRA MVMNT PHILSPHY under Shaina and Bryan Baira. Within her career at Wayne State, Craft performed works by Twyla Tharp, Danys ‘La Mora’ Perez (Oyu Oro Afro-Cuban Experimental Dance Ensemble), Bosmat Nossan (Batsheva Dance Ensemble), Meg Paul, Dr. Biba Bell, Stephanie Troyak, G^2, Adam McGaw, and many others. Craft has been able to work both in and out of the university setting in marketing, arts administration, graphic design, research, film, videography, and photography. In 2020 she began working professionally as a photographer and since then has photographed for Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Dorrance Dance, Wayne State, Madonna University and been published in The Wall Street Journal, Dance Magazine, and the New York Times, among other publications. At Wayne State, Taylor was able to dance and choreograph in several company structures at Wayne State, most effectively as an Artistic Director for both Dance Workshop and the Virtual Dance Collaboratory, curating concerts, and choreographing for departmental performances. In 2022, Craft produced and premiered her first independent dance-theatre work ‘the semi truck that blocks my view is still beautiful. Combining movement, written and spoken text, and a live electronic music score, ‘semi-truck’ is a theatre experience demonstrating the range of life’s experiences that comes with approaching adulthood.
As a dancer, Craft has also had the pleasure of participating in many festivals where she has been trained by notable instructors such as Dwight Rhoden, Desmond Richardson, BAIRA Movement Philosophy, and more. Taylor’s choreography has been showcased in Wayne State University’s Spring Dance Concert in 2020 and 2022 and received the Copperfoot award for excellence in choreography from WSU in 2020. Taylor relocated to New York City in 2022 to join Complexions Contemporary Ballet as Company Manager and Creative Coordinator where she toured with the company. She is currently Company Manager for Dorrance Dance.
